Future proofing our essential infrastructure
AlburyCity is responsible for supplying the essential water and sewer infrastructure and services that support our everyday lives. These services also enable the city to grow. The city is experiencing unprecedented growth and, in our main growth corridor, it is forecast we will see an additional 50,000 residents by 2060.
In the next 15 years, AlburyCity’s water and sewer infrastructure will be reaching capacity as it meets the demands of this growth. This means AlburyCity will be required to deliver key elements of its future infrastructure within the next five years. The planned upgrades will be the largest essential infrastructure program in our history, providing for current needs as well as future development.
Our draft Water and Wastewater Master Plans outline what needs to be done in providing the essential water and sewer (also known as wastewater) services to meet the future population and industrial demands of the city.
The master plans are technical documents developed through advanced simulations and detailed modelling of the city’s water and sewer infrastructure. They are designed to ensure the long-term sustainability of essential services through to 2065 and beyond. By presenting these plans to the community, the Council aims to build public confidence that it is planning for future population growth and industrial demand for water and wastewater services.
By 2030, significant infrastructure is to be delivered with works including upgrades to the Main Sewer Pump Station (in Wodonga Place) and the existing Wastewater Treatment Plant at Waterview, along with the construction of large water tanks and water conveyance infrastructure within the Thurgoona Wirlinga area.
AlburyCity recently finalised the acquisition of a large parcel of vacant land east of the Hume Highway at Ettamogah for an additional wastewater treatment plant to cater for the expected growth of Thurgoona-Wirlinga and the NEXUS Regional Job Precinct. The treatment plant is set to come online by 2040.
