Overview

AlburyCity is proposing a change to the Solar Panel Recycling Gate Fee at the Albury Waste Management Centre.
The proposed fee increase aims to ensure the cost of managing and recycling solar panels is covered in line with rising handling and processing expenses.

This proposal is being publicly exhibited in accordance with Section 610F of the Local Government Act 1993, which requires councils to give public notice of new or amended fees for at least 28 days and to consider any feedback before adoption.

What’s Changing

Fee NameCurrent Fee - per itemProposed Fee - per itemChange- per item
Solar Panel Recycling Gate Fee$8 (GST Inclusive)$15 (GST Inclusive)+$7
On average, more than 300 solar panels are recycled each month through the Albury Waste Management Centre.

The increase reflects higher processing and transport costs associated with safely managing this growing waste stream.

Why The Change is Proposed

  • The updated fee will:
    • Ensure cost recovery for the recycling service.
    • Support the ongoing sustainability of waste management operations.
    • Maintain AlburyCity’s commitment to environmentally responsible recycling.
By adjusting this fee, Council can continue to manage solar panels responsibly without shifting costs to ratepayers.
