AlburyCity is developing a new Weed Management Policy to guide how we control weeds across our city’s public spaces, parks, and natural areas.

Our priority is keeping the community safe while protecting the environment. We want to make sure our approach reflects community expectations, particularly when it comes to minimising the use of pesticides and herbicides.

The draft policy will:

  • Help meet our obligations under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015.
  • Support integrated weed management practices, such as hand-pulling, mowing, mulching, and biological control, with herbicides used as required.
  • Identify and protect sensitive areas, such as playgrounds, schools, waterways, and high-use public spaces, where the community expects extra care.
  • Reduce risks to people, pets, wildlife, and the environment from unnecessary pesticide use.

*Please note we also ensure that a minimum 5 working days' advance notice is given to a neighbouring sensitive place when pesticides will be used outside within 20 metres of a common boundary.

We’d like to hear from you on what places should be treated as sensitive areas and how you’d like to see them managed.

Your feedback will help us create a policy that balances safety, community expectations, and environmental protection.
