Help us review how AlburyCity communicates with the media

This policy guides how AlburyCity works with media organisations to share information with the community about Council decisions, services, projects, events and activities.

The policy also helps ensure communication is clear, consistent, transparent and aligned with good governance practices.

The draft policy has been reviewed to ensure it reflects current media practices, aligns with the NSW Office of Local Government Model Media Policy, and supports the delivery of the Engaging Albury Communications & Engagement Strategy.

What's changing?

The draft 2026 Media Policy includes two minor updates from the current policy:

  • references have been updated to align with the Engaging Albury Communications & Engagement Strategy
  • CEO approval is now required before final Mayor approval for any significant changes to media statements or media releases following review processes.

Why this matters

A clear and consistent media approach helps Council:

  • keep the community informed about projects, services and decisions
  • support transparent and accountable communication
  • encourage community awareness and participation
  • strengthen trust between Council and the community
  • manage reputational risk and respond effectively to media enquiries.
