Overview
Under the Local Government Act 1993, every new council must review its Code of Conduct within 12 months of election. With the last election held in September 2024, AlburyCity is now required to update its Code.
The draft Code includes only minor changes at this stage, including:
- Updating the document into the new AlburyCity policy template
- Adding a new appendix that provides guidance on how council staff manage private or contract work alongside their official duties
Once the NSW Office of Local Government releases its updated Model Code of Conduct, AlburyCity will review the policy again to make sure it reflects all new requirements.
Why this matters
The Code of Conduct sets the standard for how Councillors and Council staff interact and work together. It ensures Council operates with integrity, accountability and professionalism, helping to build trust and confidence in the organisation. Clear standards also support a safe and respectful workplace, protecting staff and the community from risks such as misconduct, harassment or bullying.
Have your say
The draft Code of Conduct is on public exhibition for 42 days. We encourage community members to review the draft and share their feedback before it is formally considered by Council.
