Help shape the future of Bunton Park

We’re reviewing the Bunton Park Master Plan and we’d like your thoughts on some proposed updates.

The original Master Plan was endorsed by Council in April 2020. It outlined a long-term vision to improve facilities at Bunton Park, focusing on infrastructure needs while retaining the existing licensed club building for continued use by the North Albury Sports Club Ltd.

In June 2020, the North Albury Sports Club Ltd went into administration and surrendered its lease, leaving the building available for alternative community use.

What’s happened since 2020

A detailed condition assessment in 2021 found the main building to be structurally sound and suitable for repurposing. Rather than building new infrastructure from scratch, AlburyCity has been working with local user groups on ways to adapt the existing building to meet community needs in a more cost-effective and sustainable way.

A preliminary draft concept plan has now been developed for the building which includes:

  • New and improved public toilets
  • A modern canteen integrated into the function space
  • Indoor/outdoor spectator viewing areas
  • Better storage facilities

This revised approach means a second large sports pavilion, originally proposed in the 2020 Master Plan, may no longer be needed.

What other changes are being considered

Alongside repurposing the main building, we’ve identified other potential updates to the Master Plan that could improve how the park is used and reduce impacts on surrounding spaces, including the Logan Road off-leash dog park. These updates include:

  • Removing the proposed internal service road and roundabout
  • Relocating the second netball court to the south of the existing court to reduce encroachment on the off-leash dog area
  • Retaining the existing cricket nets, following interest from North Albury Cricket Club in relocating training to Thurgoona (as outlined in the Ernest Grant Park Master Plan), while continuing to play matches at Bunton Park
  • Keeping the North Albury Bowling Club facilities in place, with minor upgrades to support future use
