Shaping the Future of Billson Park
Project overview
Right in the heart of Central Albury on David Street — just across from the upgraded Albury Skate Park — Billson Park is a well-loved green space that brings locals together. It’s home to the Albury Cricket Club and is shared by community groups and garden lovers alike.
With most of its facilities dating back to the 1980s, including the play space, parking, and clubrooms, it’s time to reimagine what this space could be. We’re developing a new master plan that will guide improvements and ensure Billson Park continues to meet the needs of our growing community.
This includes planning for a new sports pavilion with public toilets, an upgraded inclusive play space that aligns with "Everyone Can Play" guidelines, and better support for the community garden and shared facilities. The current buildings and amenities have served the community well, but they’re showing their age and no longer meet today’s expectations.
We’re working closely with key stakeholders and community groups to get it right — and we’ll keep you in the loop as the project progresses.
Together, let’s shape a better Billson Park for everyone.
Project Objectives
The Billson Park Master Plan seeks to:
- develop Billson Park as a modern sporting facility that accommodates inclusivity for wider community participation, is gender neutral, and is accessible to all;
- provide an optimal playing surface and lighting;
- provide a landmark district level play space;
- increase community ties through improvements to the existing community gardens;
- provide adequate parking and linkages to adjoining facilities and connections to broader pedestrian and cycle networks;
- increase the provision of shade trees to align with the principles identified in the NSW Government’s Urban Greening Initiative and Albury City Council’s Urban Forest Technical Manual.
