During winter, the Albury Swim Centre operates with reduced hours. This reflects lower seasonal use and the higher costs of heating, staffing and maintaining the facility.

At its 16 March meeting, Council considered whether the centre should close over winter to reduce costs. While closure remains an option, Council also resolved to explore ways to keep the pool open, including looking at alternative funding options such as a winter season surcharge.

Why this matters

Operating the Albury Swim Centre costs around $700,000 each year to subsidise.
Closing the facility over winter would save close to $10,000 per week.

Before any decisions are made, we want to understand what matters most to our community and whether there is support for contributing towards these additional costs.

What we’re asking

We’re seeking your feedback to help guide Council’s decision, including:

  • how you or your household currently use the pool during winter
  • the days and times that would best suit you
  • whether you would be willing to pay a winter surcharge to help keep the pool open
  • what level of contribution you would consider reasonable

What happens next

Your feedback will help inform Council’s decision on whether the Albury Swim Centre remains open over winter, and if so, under what conditions.

Please note: closure of the facility this winter is still a possibility, depending on Council’s final decision and budget outcomes. If this occurs, a minimum 28-day notice period will be provided following a Council resolution.
